Our Impact (What The National Center is Doing About It)

The National Center on Family Homelessness (The National Center) conducts state-of-the-art research, identifies and disseminates best practices and innovative solutions, and raises public awareness about the unique needs of homeless families. We know what families need to rebound from the economic, social, medical, and mental health problems that put them on the streets. The National Center identifies strategies that work to prevent and end homelessness, and makes these solutions available to frontline providers.

Drawing on over two decades of experience, our work is anchored in:

  • Deep understanding of the needs and strengths of vulnerable children and families.
  • Effective strategies for preventing and ending family homelessness.
  • Evidence-based services that are responsive, effective, cost-efficient, and culturally sensitive.
  • Training and technical assistance in all areas related to child and family homelessness.
  • Strategic community partnerships that leverage multiple perspectives and skills.

The National Center on Family Homelessness emphasizes that housing is essential to ending homelessness, but recognizes that housing alone is not sufficient. Only by providing housing in combination with supports and services will families remain stably housed and become productive members of their communities. We provide state-of-the-art resources, training, and technical assistance about working with families who are homeless.
