Training & Technical Assistance

Our training and technical assistance efforts have reached thousands of providers in hundreds of communities across the country.

Our approach:

  • Raise Awareness by conducting trainings in community-based settings with city and state agencies, and at national and regional conferences.
  • Provide Practical Tools that help service providers and others who work with families.
  • Transform Services by working one-on-one with programs to create services that are more responsive to client needs.

Through training and technical assistance, The National Center on Family Homelessness supports community-based organizations working to help families who are homeless.  We work with case managers, program directors, child care providers, teachers, researchers, clinicians, and students.

Our trainings are interactive, engaging, practical, and research-based.  Our areas of expertise include:

  • Understanding traumatic stress and its impact
  • Creating trauma-informed services
  • Addressing the needs of children living in shelters
  • Understanding the mental health needs of people who are homeless
  • Educating staff about burnout, vicarious trauma, and self-care
  • Motivational interviewing techniques
  • Involving consumers in your program
  • Evaluating programs

We strive to adapt each training to meet the needs of our audience.
